Problem
Clip lost from carb needle.
Actual/common cause
Popped off and lost during roadside jetting-in.
Solution
Trim a strand off the spare-end of a control cable (gear in this instance). Wrap the strand round the groove in the needle, remembering to tie off periodically as you go - use pliers or rags on your hands to get it tight - and leave around 6mm of the loose ends when trimming. Assemble as normal.
Complications
Unravelling causing the needle to drop down (with scary consequences). Use a single length strand if possible and tie-off regularly as you go to avoid this.
Podgiest bodge
Lampposts sometimes have big Jubilee clips round them. As do road signs, which often utilise M8 bolts & nuts (wheel studs, seat post, etc.) too. enough said but read the disclaimer!
